Finding the spread

  1. Note the instant-buy price and, at the same moment, a market or order-book price for the same coin.
  2. Spread % = instant-buy price ÷ market price − 1. A quoted price of 101 against a market price of 100 is a 1% spread.
  3. On an order book the spread is usually smaller, but the trading fee still applies and a limit order may not fill.

Before you confirm

  • Is the platform registered or authorised where you live?
  • Do you know every fee, including the withdrawal fee?
  • Could you afford to lose this money?Crypto assets are volatile and can lose most or all of their value.
  • For recurring buys: multiply the cost per buy by the number of buys per year

Regional notes

  • EU: Crypto-asset service providers need authorisation under MiCA; ESMA and national regulators publish registers.
  • UK: The FCA requires risk warnings, and first-time investors get a 24-hour cooling-off period for crypto promotions.
  • US: Rules differ by state; many platforms need state money-transmitter licences.
  • Elsewhere: Check your financial regulator’s warnings and registers. Tax on crypto gains differs by country.
